What to know about our Blessing of the Animals

Q: Will the 8:00 service be different this Sunday? A: No. The 8:00 service will be a normal service in the nave and chancel. Q: Is there an Adult Forum this Sunday? A: Yes! At 9:00 there is a presentation based on the day’s animal theme from our resident animal welfare advocate from Animal Friends. Q: Is there Sunday School this Sunday? A: No. However, there will be an activity available for children at 9:00 a.m. Then they can join their families (and their beloved pets if applicable) at the service at 10:00 Q: Will the 10:00 livestream be available this Sunday? A: We’re planning on it! After all, it worked just fine last year! But there is always the possibility that something could go haywire. But we will make sure it’s recorded and post it later if we have to. Q: Are we really allowed to bring animals inside church? A: Well, staff members are notorious for bringing their furry friends with them on occasion during the week, but it’s usually just one at a time. So yes they are welcome, but since much of our worship space is carpeted, we would prefer not to have *that* potential clean-up bill. Q: I’m not sure what I should do with my pets on Sunday, can you help me? A: Here are two things to consider: – Is your pet well-behaved and managable to handle? – Will they enjoy time around other pets and people, or would it stress them – and/or you – too much? We’ve had many successful animal blessings over the years, so we really don’t forsee too much of a problem, but here is some advice: First of all, all pets must be on leash or inside a carrier to keep them safe at all times. If your pet(s) can be “a bit much” at times or is/are knowingly uncomfortable around other animals or crowds of people, make it easy on yourself and bring a picture of your furry loved one(s). The clergy will be happy to bless by proxy! Maybe you or your child have a stuffed animal who serves as or represents your faithful companion (and who won’t react to the craziness or eat the grass, or react to another pet). Bring them along for a blessing! Key thing to remember: God knows the intention in your heart, the blessing will get to your beloved furry friends one way or another! Q: What if my pet(s) is/are no longer with us? A: Please bring a picture of your beloved friend with you and we can pray for them too! Q: Anything else I should know? A: Yes, PLEASE bring lawn chairs, blankets, your OWN dog/cat treats… OH!… and clean up tools for the inevitable… (heh heh…) and watch your step! AND PRAY FOR NICE WEATHER!
